Calm-er Chaos: Our Real-Life Journey With High-Energy Dogs
Living with two big, rescued dogs taught us what calm-er chaos for high-energy dogs really means.
Welcome to our Calm-er Chaos—a real-life dog parenting journey built on trial, structure, and everyday wins. When Yenni, our high-energy German Shepherd/Husky/Malinois mix, joined our home, life got loud. Shelly, our calm GSD, had her rhythms. Yenni didn’t. We weren’t trainers. Just two dog people trying to build stability and enrichment for reactive rescued dogs.
How We Found Calm-er Chaos for High-Energy Dogs
What worked for us might not work for everyone—but creating a structure that supports high-energy rescued dogs gave us back our peace. Calm-er chaos is real, and it’s possible. This site exists because of them—Yenni and Shelly—and because what’s worked for us might work for someone else. We’re not offering expert dog advice. We’re offering what we’ve lived: real tools for real families managing structured routines for multi-dog households.
You won’t find quick fixes here. Just insights into what helped us bring calm-er chaos to a busy household. Things like flirt pole routines, window stickers, or enrichment planners—all grounded in lived experience.
The Calm-er Pup Toolkit was our first digital step forward. It’s part of our free resource library for reactive rescue dogs and high-energy pups. Alongside it, you’ll find pet safety stickers, lost dog flyer templates, and more.
We share the hard stuff too: setbacks, changes, what didn’t work. We’ve learned that chaos isn’t the enemy—confusion is. What helped us most was setting routines and sticking to them, even when progress felt slow. Over time, those routines built the structure our dogs now rely on. This isn’t about perfection. It’s about trying—and creating a life where your dog can thrive.
If that sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.
OUR DOGS
Meet the Pups
Yenni
Yenni is a high-energy, sweet-natured mystery mix of German Shepherd, Husky, and Malinois. He came to us as a young adult with a big personality and an even bigger need for structure. Smart, sensitive, and always in motion, Yenni is the reason we built enrichment into our daily routine. He thrives when he has a job to do—whether it’s mastering a puzzle toy or powering through a trail hike—and he’s tested nearly every toy, chew, and piece of gear we recommend.
Shelly
Shelly is our steady, observant German Shepherd with a calm but active temperament. Also adopted as a young adult, she’s naturally more balanced than Yenni but still benefits from structure and mental stimulation. Shelly loves exploring, lounging near the action, and keeping a close eye on everything around her. She’s the heart of the household and a gentle reminder that “calm” can still mean engaged.
Together, they’ve shaped everything we share on this site—from The Calm-er Pup Toolkit to the blog posts and printables. We’re not trainers or experts—just dog people learning what works and passing it on
